Again great care was taken in the design to offer a challenge for all levels of golfer. American golf course architect Joseph Lee was given the responsibility for setting out Dom Pedro Laguna Course over low-lying coastal terrain, and in this setting was able to establish 18 holes which offer a wide variety of playing conditions. The course has been continually improved since the first ball was struck in 1990, although it retains all of the appeal of a modern test of golf, through which the strategic positioning of bunkers and a number of water obstacles demand accuracy of play. Dom Pedro Laguna Golf Course shares a well-proportioned and welcoming clubhouse with the neighbouring Millennium Golf Course.

Traversing undulating parkland, many fairways are lined by pine trees. However, perhaps an even more significant challenge is presented by the Umbrella and Atlantic pines which present themselves on fairways and at times on the approach into greens. Length has recently been added on a number of holes, which ensure the test originally envisioned by Pennink is maintained. At a substantial 6,353 metres from the white tee markers, and with a par of 72, Dom Pedro Pinhal Golf Course is certainly no pushover. Golfers will be pleased to learn that the ponds and stream which come into play on five holes should not, for the most part, present a serious threat. One of the most remarked upon features of Dom Pedro Pinhal Golf Course is the stunning panorama provided from the clubhouse, which extends over the excellent driving range and practice facilities and beyond. Completely renovated at the turn of the millennium, its veranda offers the perfect setting for post-round relaxation.

Opened in the year 2000 – comprising nine brand new holes and a refurbished inward half which had previously formed part of the original 27-hole Dom Pedro Laguna Golf Course – this is a more open course than its neighbours, although holes 3-7 are designed in the traditional Algarvian mode, meandering through the towering pines. For many, this stretch bears a resemblance to fairways of Dom Pedro Old Course Golf Club and Dom Pedro Pinhal Golf Course, where landing areas grow narrower, requiring greater accuracy. A number of lakes, particularly interestingly on 17 and 18, enrich the remaining holes of the Dom Pedro Millennium Golf Course, providing some great risk and reward golf scenarios.

The course offers a true blend of classic and modern golf course design, providing a great fair test of golf for all abilities.

Covering some 90 hectares, the venue encompasses one of the most complete golf complexes in Europe, and features an exceptional driving range and a putting green of some 2,500 m2. Since its creation in 1972 it has won several awards for excellence and is a symbol of quality tourism, a place where outstanding natural beauty is perfectly complemented by gracious living. Each hole has generous landing areas off the tees and well-defined routing amongst the woodland pines’ setting. This layout encourages the average player to hit their drivers, but calls for accurate driving and fairway shot precision to reach the greens in regulation. These holes (as with the other course) share a unique character. The terrain is typical of the area: sandy and strewn with pine trees, heather, gorse and wild flowers. Holes 6 to 14 were designed by Joseph Lee with the collaboration of Rocky Roquerome, both from the USA, and opened in 1989. The terrain is superb, sandy and littered with umbrella pines. In the spring, the rough is covered with a blanket of wild flowers. The greens are sown with Penn Bent Grass guaranteeing high quality putting surfaces all year round. Fairways and tees are covered with Bermuda 419 hybrid, which provides year-round, top quality swards. Quinta North is an enjoyable challenge to golfers of all standards, the natural woodland, pine setting, the combination of undulating greens, well positioned bunkers and water hazards ensure a unique golf experience.
